The Restaurant

A CLASSIC REINVENTED

The Claremont Hotel Club & Spa and Executive Chef Josh Thomsen unveil their new restaurant — Meritage at the Claremont. This wine driven concept creatively pairs the flavor profiles of distinctive American wines with full and half portions of regionally sourced, farm fresh food. A new upscale yet comfortable lounge complements a spacious dining room offering the Claremont’s legendary panoramic views.

Chef Thomsen has worked at some of the finest restaurants and hotels across the country including the French Laundry in Napa Valley; and at the Little Nell Hotel in Colorado and the Hotel Bel Air in Los Angeles, both Relais Chateau properties.

Working with San Francisco-based Ziv Davis Design and Architecture Studio, Meritage at the Claremont is both vintage and modern. Two-story high ceilings, original arches and columns celebrate the architecture of the striking hotel and create a dramatic entrance for any guest. A chic Mahogany bar with marble accents is complemented by cushy high back chairs stretching from the front of the restaurant back toward the kitchen. In the opposite corner, a cozy lounge encourages lingering over a glass of wine and enjoying some small plates while listening to music each night.  A crisscross of dark Mahogany wine racks accents the bar and lounge area emphasizing the restaurant’s focus on wine and a glass refrigerator at the back wall displays the freshest ingredients from the local farmer’s market. In the main dining room, a wall of windows brings in an abundance of natural light and provides guests with breathtaking views of the San Francisco Bay. The crisp color palette is both English country and coastal inspired bringing together a mix of cool blue, green, cream and gold which is accented by modern decorative wall hangings and photography.
